Officers Down.

Saturday evening, March 31st around 10:30 Shots were fired in north Charlotte. Two Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Officers were shot. They were taken to the hospital and subsequently died from the gunshot wounds a few hours later.

What has followed that incident in the last week has been nothing short of amazing.

The two officers were Sean Clark and Jeff Shelton. These two men were doing a job they loved and protecting citizens.

Sean Clark left behind a pregnant wife and a young son. I had the privilege to work for Sean at a Property Management company in Charlotte while he was pursing a career at the Police Department. Sean was a bright, energetic and optimistic guy who always was an encouragement and just fun to be around. I remember one incident when I was working at a property that he was managing. I was in my van working, not paying attention to anything on the outside when he walked around the blind side of my van a whacked the side of the van and scared the mess out of me. We both had a good laugh!

From all the stories that have surfaced in the last week about Sean, this was his regular behavior!

I, along with my colleagues, went to the viewing on Wednesday evening at Calvary Church in Charlotte. There was a very large crowd, and we waited in line for over 3 hours.
When we finally got to the receiving line with the Clark family, we were greeted by Sean's mother. She asked if we knew Sean and we talked with her briefly. She was very much at peace with the situation and she said, "God is in control and we know he is going to use this situation for good." I was impressed with her response and as we moved through the line and spoke with Sherry (Sean's Widow), she also seemed at peace with the situation and mentioned God's grace will pull her through.

This speaks a great deal to the peace that Christians have knowing they will see their loved ones again. I know that it is a great tragedy and I couldn't imagine walking in their shoes, but at the same time, I was strengthened through their Peace.

I truly believe that EVERYTHING happens for a reason. God places people and events in our lives to teach us and to mold us. Through the tragedy of one family, Millions have now received a clear presentation of the Gospel. Sean's mother knew of what she spoke!
